Florida Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera today announced endorsements for his Republican U.S. Senate bid from state Senate Majority Leader Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, and eight state House members from Southwest Florida.
Lopez-Cantera is one of four Republicans seeking the nomination to succeed Sen.Marco Rubio, who’s passing up a re-election bid to run for president. The endorsements from Tallahassee lawmakers highlight Lopez-Cantera’s effort to paint himself as the candidate with non-Washington government experience, a contrast to U.S. Reps. David Jolly of St. Petersburg and Ron DeSantis of Ponte Vedra Beach. Army and CIA combat vet and defense contractor Todd Wilcox is also seeking the GOP nomination.
Also endorsing Lopez-Cantera today were state Reps. Ben Albritton, R-Bartow; Jim Boyd, R-Bradenton; Dane Eagle, R-Cape Coral; Heather Fitzenhagen, R-Fort Myers;Julio Gonzalez, R-Port Charlotte; Kaltheen Passidomo, R-Naples; Ray Pilon, R-Sarasota; and Ken Roberson, R-Port Charlotte.
Lopez-Cantera has also been endorsed by Attorney General Pam Bondi and several Orlando-area state lawmakers.
